Bridget Gruenke, Manitowoc, Wisconsin August 2010 Finished August 3, 2010. Bicycled (the ones with pedals) around the lake. Favorite spot - Grand Marais, Minnesota Sara Bernardy, Oshkosh, Wisconsin August 2010 Date finished - August 3, 2010. Bicycled (the ones with pedals) around Lake Superior. Favorite spot - Munising, Michigan. Age -16. Eleanor Henning, Mundelein, Illinois July 2010 We completed our tour July 23, 2010. Our mode of transportation was a 350Z Roadster convertible. It was a blast! Although this was my first time, my husband completed the tour on his BMW motorcycle in 2000. There were so many special experiences in each place we visited it is hard to pick just one. I must say my favorite was the Porcupine Mountains. Six years ago my husband proposed at the Lake of the Clouds. We were snowmobiling and there was a “blizzard” and as we reached the top, all we could see was fog. This time I saw how truly beautiful this area is. I love waterfalls and I surely was not disappointed. We loved Munising, Michigan; Grand Marais, Minnesota; and Madeline Island, Wisconsin, to name a few. We did a boat tour and that was amazing. There is so much beauty on this earth. We did have some rain and even then we were blessed with a rainbow. John & Donna Stanczak, Menomonee Falls, Wisconsin September 1987 We recently visited Duluth and saw your ad about e-mailing a date when the Circle Tour was completed. We completed the trip around Lake Superior by car on September 27, 1987, following our 25th wedding anniversary. It was a wonderful trip and our favorite spot was Lake Superior Provincial Park. The rock formations there were amazing. Oh, by the way, we will be celebrating our 48th anniversary this fall. Ed & Deanne Turja, Bloomington, Minnesota July 2010 I just completed a very memorable trip around Lake Superior. I would like to become a Circle Tour Club member now. I began my trip on Tuesday June 29, 2010, and completed the circle on Friday July 2. I traveled just over 1,900 miles from start to finish. While reading the Lake Superior Travel Guide, I found your free map and club membership details. My most memorable location on my trip were the pictographs on the cliffs at Agawa, Ontario. The second most memorable location was the Thunder Bay lookout on the Sleeping Giant Peninsula. The drive to this lookout is fairly long on a dirt road, but it’s well worth the time to see the tall cliffs and the view of Thunder Bay. I was fortunate to spend almost an hour at each location, completely alone, not a person or car in sight! Also, the two-hour drive inland between Marathon and Wawa, Ontario, had some of the best lake view and scenery on the whole trip. The hilly terrain and endless small, quiet lakes were great places to take photographs. I have a few suggestions for others who want to take this trip. First, if possible, plan your trip when the weather is expected to be sunny. This made my trip very special, since I was planning on taking lots of photos. Second, avoid making the trip on the Canadian side during their special July 1st Canada Day celebration. Almost everything except gas stations are closed on this day. Plan to take several days going around the Canadian portion during this time, so you can stop at the many shops and sites while they are open. Otherwise, my best suggestion is to simply take your time. Take the time to walk down to the lakeshore whenever possible. Every portion of the lake has different rock formations, and the colors of the rocks change dramatically as you go. Steve Svacina, Viola, Wisconsin July 2010 The favorite part of the trip for us was being able to see the Soo Locks and then going to Marquette, Michigan, and enjoying all the beautiful scenery there, the park as well as watching a big boat being loaded. Wherever we stayed the people were very pleasant and helpful with all the sites to see.
