We have just completed the circle, clockwise. It took us 9 days and actually should have taken longer, except we had another couple with us ( not in the same car) and so our timetable was compromised somewhat. We enjoyed Copper Harbour and the scenery. We stayed there overnight. I found the hotel staff in Duluth to be very accommodating and helpful. We did a little shopping in Duluth, but didn’t venture downtown. The Canadian scenery, especially from Nipigon to just past Wawa (as one American, who was doing the tour the way around described it to us) was “drop dead gorgeous!” How right he was. We had a niece in Wawa who took the time to show us some of the hidden beauty spots. We returned home via the Manitoulin ferry, which was a lovely end to a memorable vacation.

For almost 20 years I camped on the Canadian side of the big lake and finally decided to tour the entire lake. I hadn’t been in America since I went to California as a 20-year-old in 1960, via the old Route 66. I did the complete tour of the lake in 2008 and 2009 and loved every spot I visited. I have no favourite location. Each town or site I visited was uniquely rewarding. This year I succumbed to advice from other people and for the first time toured New England and the Canadian Maritimes. Though I thoroughly enjoyed the beauty of both, I was increasingly “homesick” for Lake Superior. I thought it was foolish to feel like that as I believed I had made my last trip to the big lake in 2009. I know now that I will return to Lake Superior next summer and for longer than the usual two weeks, as I’m now retired and can take my time. I will also renew my subscription to the Lake Superior Magazine. There is no place like Lake Superior. It grabs your soul and won’t let go. The only regret I have is taking so long to circle the lake. Canadians and Americans are fortunate to share such a beautiful area of North America. May we always treasure it and protect it for future generations.

Wow, I have just turned 50 and have never camped before. Doug (who has camped most of his life) and I got ourselves a conversion van. Our first trip was to do the Circle Tour. We live in Manitouwadge and have wanted to do this for some time. Well, I am addicted and now can understand why camping is so awesome. The Circle Tour was awesome. It truly was a wonderful vacation. Everywhere we went the people and campers were open and friendly. It brought back how people can still be friendly and genuine no matter where you are from. Copper Harbor was especially beautiful, but most of all, the Lake, the beautiful Lake. Wow! We headed off from Sault Ste. Marie and ended back there on Sept 15th. A trip we will soon not forget. Thanks.

We completed the Circle Tour on Saturday, September 26. From Ashland to Ashland. Favorite spot: Pukaskwa National Park - all the unspoiled beauty and grandeur.

We did the trip over 2 Years. Our Favorites were: Gunflint Trail, Grand Marais, Minnesota, and Pictured Rocks, Michigan. The colors were amazing in the UP! Also, seeing boats come in in Duluth.

I write to you this evening to be included as part of the Lake Superior Circle Tour Club. My friend Steve Johnson and I (Dave Casey) completed the Circle Tour this past Friday by motorcycle. We departed my house (Brooklyn Park, Minnesota) on Sept 19th and ended our trip at our cabins at Spirit Lake (Aitkin County) on Friday Sept 25th. We did a Duluth-to-Duluth Circle Tour - clockwise. We rode in 5 days of gorgeous fall weather, one day of rain and one day of fog. We thoroughly enjoyed the entire trip. We were amazed by the visuals of the Canadian shoreline. And impressed by the quality of the Canadian roads. We spent nights camping in Grand Marais, Minnesota, Terrace Bay and Wawa, Ontario, Paradise, Baraga and Silver City, Michigan. We, of course, always love Minnesota’s North Shore, but especially loved the ride from Thunder Bay to Marathon - breathtaking views. Michigan was beginning to show her beautiful fall colors that we enjoyed. Whitefish Point Lighthouse was special as well as the Brew Pub at Tahquamenon Falls. Our second to last day was spent in the Porcupine Mountains with an awesome view of the Lake of the Clouds. The trip couldn’t have been more enjoyable. We took seven days, it was a nice pace for us. Allowing a little time here and there for exploration.
