We went on the Circle Tour, starting on Sunday, September 20, and completed the circle Sunday, September 27. Our favorite stop was having dinner at Naniboujou Lodge one night. The other favorite stop was the beautiful starry night in Bayfield, Wisconsin, at the Winfield Inn, and enjoying their beautiful gardens.

My husband and I recently completed a wonderful trip around Lake Superior to celebrate our 33rd anniversary. Here’s the info: We took 8 days to complete the drive, finishing on October 11. We had already done both the Bayfield Peninsula loop and the Copper Harbor section, so we bypassed those areas on this trip. It’s difficult to single out a favorite spot or experience, since there were many from which to choose. The drive through Lake Superior Provincial Park on the eastern shore was probably our favorite area overall, followed by the Apostle Islands and Minnesota’s North Shore.

I completed the Circle Tour of Lake Superior from July 4 through July 22, 2009. I did the tour by bicycle. A complete journal - with photographs - is available online at www.crazyguyonabike.com/doc/superior2009. I saw no moose or bears on the trip, although I had thought I might. There were great views of the lake throughout the trip - but the best access to the lake, and the nicest traveling, was on the stretch between Munising and Marquette, Michigan, with lots of beaches and places to sit and admire the lake. It was cold during the summer of 2009, and especially the northern part of the trip, in Canada, was wet and kind of miserable. I wish I had brought mittens and socks! I camped and stayed in motels throughout the trip. On the first night, camping in some woods near Agate Falls in Michigan, a deer and fawn ran through my camp, knocking over my bicycle and breaking a tent pole! I was surprised by the number of bicyclists I met in Canada riding the Trans Canadian highway. I met one or two other cyclists riding around Lake Superior. It was a wonderful trip!

Hello. When the Trans Canadian Highway was being built, my parents took us around the Lake. My father had to sign a waiver not holding the Canadian Government responsible for our safety, because they were still blasting and grading and sometimes there were rock falls and obstructions. I still remember counting moose in the road, and the “beary” nights sleeping in a tent in an unfinished primitive camp. My parents must have been nuts!! But I am glad they took me. I was about 12. I am now 60.

Hi Lake Superior Magazine! I am a freshman student at Northland College in Ashland. I just completed the Circle Tour as part of a class. We have been in the “Superior Catches” liberal education program for the past school year, learning about the cultural and natural history of the watershed. We topped off the year by spending the month of May going around the lake. It was one of the best months of my life! We all really enjoyed it! I travelled with 15 other students and 3 faculty members.

We have completed our Circle Tour of Lake Superior. We left Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on Sunday, September 27 and returned to Sault Ste. Marie on Sunday, October 4. We stayed in Wawa and Thunder Bay, Ontario, Two Harbors, Minnesota, Ashland, Wisconsin, and Houghton and Munising, Michigan. My favorite parts of the trip were the Tom Hortons’ I was able to visit in Canada and the other food stops we made. I liked the Finnish treats at the Hoito Restaurant in Thunder Bay. I especially enjoyed the carrot cake at the Coho Café in Tofte, Minnesota. My wife enjoyed all the waterfalls we were able to visit. Whenever we saw a sign for a waterfall, we drove or hiked into the spot. We saw more than 20 falls of various sizes.

Forty years ago my wife and I did the Circle Tour on our honeymoon. Thinking about doing it again in the summer of 2010.
