July 2009
My family and I just completed the Circle Tour, we left on June 26 and came home on July 2. We really enjoyed ourselves even if the weather wasn’t the best. The one day in Michigan it was 49 degrees at 3 in the afternoon, and rainy. We were surprised at the mountainous beauty of Canada once you got past Thunder Bay. However, we learned to make sure that you have plenty of gas in your car as we had to turn around and refill; there wasn’t anything open for about 100 miles. We really liked watching the ships go through the locks in Sault Ste. Marie. We have gone along the whole south shore a few times, but this was our first complete tour. We always love to stop in Bayfield, Wisconsin. Though, we were able to take the ferry out to Madeline Island this time, since we haven’t been able to before. We also enjoyed ourselves at the Whitefish Point Lighthouse in Michigan. There was a lot to see there, many more buildings than we thought there would be. My son has always been interested in the [Edmund Fitzgerald, so he was thrilled to see the bell from the ship as well as other artifacts from the other shipwrecks there. This was also the first time that we had stopped in Grand Marais, Minnesota, and really thought that was a pretty town. We walked out to the lighthouse and along the shore there and got many beautiful pictures. The sun was shining and there was no wind. That was the last day of really nice weather before the rain started. Of course, we love Duluth, Minnesota, also and whenever we go there we try and go to different places than the time before. We have made a list of things that we want to go back and see up at Thunder Bay. My kids thought that the “Sleeping Giant” was really cool up there. We have been to 48 of the 50 states and have wanted to do this Circle Tour for a while, so we are really glad that we were finally able to complete it. Now we are thinking about going around all of the Great Lakes. I don’t think we could tell you our favorite thing; we loved it all really. Another thing my kids really liked was stopping at the Amethyst mine outside of Thunder Bay and collecting some amethyst to bring back home with us. We looked at this website before we left and received several ideas on places, so thank you for having this site.

We traveled June 15 to June 26, 2009. We really enjoyed Sault Ste. Marie in Ontario and Michigan. We stayed right across from the locks - that was great! We were disappointed that the Agawa Train Tour hadn’t started yet. St Ignace was a delightful little town. Canada had beautiful scenery - but the towns were pretty mediocre - not like they were advertised. Whitefish Point Lighthouse was wonderful! We called after a day or two on the road and got a reservation! We were a little disappointed in Copper Harbor, but found a bakery called The Jampot - what a treat! The flowers and everything there was nice. Pictured Rocks was beautiful. Stay in Bayfield - you can do a lot.

Howdy folks at Circle Tour. Last summer (08) my partner and I kayaked the entire shoreline. It was a long and at times crazy experience, but roughly 3 months after we began we arrived back in Bayfield, Wisconsin. It is hard to determine what our favorite spots were, but without a doubt we would do the entire Canadian shore again! If you are at all interested or have a place to post it, we kept an online web log at: sessiononsuperior.blogspot.com Thanks for your time and keeping people excited about The Big Lake.

I just completed a five-day Circle Tour of Lake Superior. We left St. Paul, Minnesota, on July 30th and returned home after completing the circle on August 5th. We had a group of 8 motorcycles and stayed in Copper Harbor, Michigan, Batchawana Bay and Red Rock, Ontario, and Ashland, Wisconsin. I had so much fun, I am taking my wife and another couple on the same trip leaving in September. Two beautiful tours in the space of two months!
