Started Circle Tour actually about 20 years ago and finished it up August 10, 2003. Could only do it in parts. Favorite spot was Marathon to Rossport - beautiful ride - bright and sunny for a motorcycle ride. Best experience was at a visitor center 2 miles East of Marathon right on the Highway. One of the ladies there, Heidi, was extremely helpful when she found out what we were doing and pulled out a list of a lot of out-of-the-way spots and popular ones … a few that weren’t in the Travel Guide!

Many people have circled the lake much faster by bike than my 27 days but as I neared the end I wished the lake were bigger so the trip wouldn’t be over so soon! Jilbert’s Dairy in Marquette, Michigan, is a fun landmark after stopping daily (often more than once a day!) throughout the U.P. for Mackinac Island Fudge and Bear Attack sundaes!

My family and I completed the Lake Superior Circle Tour for the second time this August. We completed the Circle Tour during August 2-16, 2003 - and about ten years earlier we also did the Tour, but in only six days. We had a much better time going a little more slowly, spending two nights in most places. There were so many great places and memories on this trip - I will mention three:
1) Neys Provincial Park in Ontario - great camping facilities, wonderful hiking trails for kids, rocks to sit on and watch the sunset, a beautiful sand beach where we made a huge sandcastle, wild blueberries ripe for the picking everywhere - we loved it there even when the temps dipped into the 40s one night!
2) Sandy Beach around Michipicoten, near Wawa. It has miles of sand, warm water (well, for Lake Superior), shallows for the kids and hardly anyone else around.
3) Copper Falls State Park in Wisconsin: It had deep canyons, rushing water, beautiful, challenging trails but it’s away from the hustle and bustle of Bayfield and the Apostle Islands.
Thanks for producing such a useful Travel Guide. We used it to find many beautiful spots we would have missed - too many, actually, since we didn’t see half of what was possible.

It took us 8 days to complete the tour. The Apostle Island trip was a highlight - THE highlight!

It’s hard to pick one favorite! There were so many. We loved hiking in Judge Magney State Park by Grand Marais, Minnesota. The Kinniwabi Pines Restaurant in Wawa had surprisingly good ethnic food. The fireworks in Munising, Michigan, were pretty impressive. My husband votes for the Shipwreck Museum in Whitefish, Michigan. Great scenery the whole time!

We completed the Circle Tour around Lake Superior on a motorcycle. We departed from Duluth with some friends who came up from Phoenix, Arizona, to take the tour on Monday, August 4, 2003, and complete the Circle Tour back in Duluth on Friday, August 8, 2003.

The Canadian Highway 17 was most beautiful and the road was in excellent condition. Our trip to Madeline Island was the highlight of the tour. The weather was perfect and everyone was friendly.

We (4 of us on motorcycles) did the tour from August 4-8, 2003. We departed from Canal Park in Duluth and returned to the same location. The weather was great with the exception of a small shower between Marathon and Wawa, Ontario. Our favorite spot was night 4 on Madeline Island, Wisconsin. Most memorable part may have been seeing a moose in the wild along the Ontario portion of our trip.

Recently our family had the pleasure of completing the Circle Tour. We travelled from Sault Ste. Marie,Ontario, through the United States first and then up through Canada. We took the trip in 9 days, from July 18 until the 27th. We had a great time and really enjoyed our time in Minnesota. We stayed in Cloquet, just outside of Duluth and were pleasantly surprised to see the Stanley Cup there! The scenery is beautiful on the trip, the ruggedness of the Canadian shore from Thunder Bay to the Sault was especially breathtaking. Thanks for all the info on the website and the Circle Tour Map was a big help!

Our trip was in August of 2000; however, there were things we missed and have been catching up on. We have seen some areas on the Circle Tour more than 5 times. We don’t really have a specific favorite area. The entire trip was a great enjoyment.

My wife Peggy and I circled Lake Superior in 2001. We completed the tour on September 11, 2001. We heard of the attacks on the Trade Centers in a café in Superior while having lunch. We agreed that while the whole trip was super we especially enjoyed the Algoma Central Railroad trip to Agawa Canyon Park.

We just returned from a motorcycle trip around Lake Superior (we left from Milwaukee on July 16th). A fabulous trip with winding roads and great scenery. The best portion of the ride was from the Canadian Sault to Wawa. Some absolutely gorgeous views of the rugged lakeshore, and we had perfect weather. The most impressive sight of the ride was Ouimet Canyon. The Travel Guide was very useful on the trip!

We just completed the circle tour in a new pop-up camper! Our favorite experiences included moose “hunting,“ lunch at the Hoito in Thunder Bay, Lake Superior Provincial Park’s unbelievable sunsets and Lake of the Clouds in Porcupine Mountains.

Our family recently visited. Our favorite place to visit was Rossport Park, where we like canoeing in the bay.

We recently completed the Lake Superior Circle Tour. We traveled from July 18-July 26, 2003. We particularly enjoyed the views from Highway 17 through Ontario - we had no idea the shoreline was so spectacular with all the climbing and winding! We camped one night at Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and we were very impressed with the campsite, cleanliness and care of the campground - in fact, all the Provincial Parks we visited were very nice and well maintained. We really enjoyed our travels.

July 21, 2003 (in 4 days) - had seen most of the U.P. previous years.
Favorite spot: East side scenery near Wawa - heavy fog on West, so it probably was beautiful, too, but couldn’t tell.
