September 3, 2007 The two favorite spots were: Eagle Canyon and the Apostle Islands. Tom/Janice Race, Highland, Indiana September 9, 2007 Finished it September 9, 2007 - five days! Copper Harbor was a favorite spot. Marathon to Thunder Bay, Ontario, was the best drive. Weather was pretty bad, but it was still beautiful. Jim Ege, Pentwater, Michigan September 1, 2007 We began the tour on August 17th, spent time in the Boundary Waters, completed it (going clockwise) on September 1st. We were thrilled to see a black bear amble across the road right in front of us about 20 miles north of Thunder Bay! We had an awesome picnic lunch at the overlook near Rossport. We had a delightful breakfast at the Voyageurs Lodge & Cookhouse in Batchawana Bay. The scenery and vistas were just awesome, and it was the perfect ending to our vacation. We look forward to doing it again! Thanks for making us members of the Circle Tour Club! Mary & Charles Norman III, Aurora, Ohio Charles A. Norman, Jr. (age 84), Decatur, Illinois Irene Norman (age 7), Aurora, Illinois August 19, 2007 For our honeymoon, we completed the Circle Tour from August 13-19, 2007. We traveled counterclockwise, beginning and ending in Duluth, Minnesota. We stayed in the following places: Bayfield, Wisconsin; Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan; Lake Superior Provincial Park, Ontario; Rossport, Ontario, and Grand Marais, Minnesota. The highlights of our trip included: Waiting out a rainstorm on the beach at Whitefish Point, and being rewarded with a great photo op … a rainbow over Lake Superior. Hiking to and camping on the beach at Gargantua Bay in Lake Superior Provincial Park. The bay was peaceful and quiet, and we hiked up the ridge to watch the sunset over Lake Superior … which was absolutely breathtaking! The night we spent at the Rossport Inn in Rossport, Ontario, was by far the most memorable … the food was amazing (they even had vegetarian options!), the service was excellent and our little cabin was perfect. Perhaps our favorite part of the night was the sound of the trains coming down the tracks, just steps from our cabin door. We were surprised at how busy the roads were in Ontario. We had been told to expect desolate, wilderness … which was not the case. We also did not see a moose on the entire trip, which was a little disappointing. We plan to go back and further explore Ontario, particularly Pukaskwa National Park, the Slate Islands and the eastern shoreline of Lake Superior. Laurie & Phil Bauerly, Walker, Minnesota July 15, 2007 Just some of the favorite spots on the tour by motorcycle were: Aguasabon Falls, Rainbow Falls, Thunder Bay-Kakabeka Falls, camping on the shores of Lake Superior at Lamb's Campground next to the Cross River in Schroeder, Minnesota, lunch at Sir Benedict's on Lake Superior in Duluth, Minnesota, Copper Harbor, Michigan, Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore, Michigan. The total experience of the Circle Tour by motorcycle will leave me with memories for many years to come. The winding, mountainous terrain of the far north shore was by far the greatest fun for the riding experience. Marc Neville, Livonia, Michigan August 2007 We did the "circle" in two parts - 1) a few years ago, up through northern Michigan, then through Grand Marais, along through Marquette, Ironwood, Superior, to Duluth. The weather was beautiful (late August) and we saw one of many sunsets in Duluth. 2) This past August, we drove from London, Ontario, Canada, to Thunder Bay (we won a free trip to Thunder Bay!!!) The weather was great, and the scenery spectacular!! My favorite spot on Lake Superior would be Thunder Bay (everything was free), arranged by "Lake Superior Visits", as our hotel (Prince Arthur) overlooked the lake. Sleeping Giant Marina, Mt. Mackay. Lloyd & Noreen Kehoe, London, Ontario September 26, 2007 We completed the Lake Superior Circle Tour for the first time in the last week of September. The ride was fantastic! Weather perfect! Scenery beyond our expectation. Hard to say what our favorite spot was but the areas between Marathon and Rossport were probably our most enjoyable. It was all beautiful and the roads were in great shape. You can read more detail in my blog. k75srides.blogspot.com. Our trip started September 22,2007, and ended September 26, 2007. Our starting and end points were Marquette, Michigan. We were riding motorcycles. Greg Paton, Appleton, Wisconsin Michael McDermot, Kaukauna, Wisconsin |
