I sent for your magazine and guidebook on impulse and may I just say that they were both invaluable to us as we circled the most beautiful freshwater lake in the world! Okay, I may be prejudiced but WOW! We lost track of the number of times we had to stop to just gawk at the beauty of God's creation! We were impressed with the cleanliness of Ontario roadsides and charmed by their stone figures called "Inukshuk" guiding our way along the northern shores of the lake. Our tour began in DeWitt, Michigan, on Saturday, September 22, 2007, and ended back there the following Sunday, September 30. We decided to circle "Counterclockwise." Maybe next time we will do it the other way! We think it must be the best vacation we have taken yet! My husband has always wanted to circle the Big Lake and since we have spent most of our summer vacations for the past 35 years in Michigan's Upper Peninsula, we thought we had a pretty good grasp of what to expect. WRONG. We were thrilled and overwhelmed with the wealth and diversity of scenery, history, attractions, etc. on this extraordinary journey. My favorite spot turned out to be Bayfield, Wisconsin. We toured the Apostle Islands, visited the apple orchards, strolled through this charming town and even discussed coming back again. The people were so friendly, the shops interesting and the restaurants terrific. The town Welcome Center was a bonus "find" as the park rangers there were so informative and helpful. The Park Service has provided travelers with a 30 minute film about the Inland Sea we call Superior. 'The Lake Is The Boss' imprinted on T-shirts and caps tells us first hand that you don't mess with Lake Superior. It is to be respected completely. One of the rangers even convinced us that one day wasn't enough to fully experience Bayfield's charms, so we stayed on an extra day. We made fast friends with a local chipmunk, but that is a story for another day! My husband's favorite spot(s) had to be either Minnesota's north shore or the Keweenaw Peninsula. Both of these spots offer such beauty and varied activities to the traveler. He is more of a hiker, while I prefer to find a lovely spot, sit and soak it in. We could do both on this trip. From Thunder Canyon bridge (my husband loved it, I was scared to death!) to the amethyst mines to Thunder Bay (great city) to Kakabeka Falls to Duluth and onward, we were struck again and again at the beauty this tour has to offer. The autumn colors were gorgeous and the photos turned out great. I took more than 700 photos - what fun to go through them and remember this trip of a lifetime! Thank you for all the help and advice your magazine and book provided. Mr. Bishop's book was laughingly referred to on the trip as our Superior "bible" and was invaluable. It was quite dogeared by the time we got home. From two grateful and happy customers!

Rick & Kim, Heidi and Nathan Czlapinski and family pets, Brownie and Shebaa (Cavalier King Charles Spaniels), completed the Lake Superior Circle Tour, August 16-24, 2007. Our favorite cities included Grand Marais,Minnesota-Marquette, Michigan-and Bayfield, Wisconsin. Our best experiences were places we could visit with the dogs in tow including the hotels, parks, beaches - like Fort Wilkins, Magpie Scenic High Falls, and Porcupine Mountains. Kim and Heidi and Nathan really enjoyed Young's General Store. Heidi and Nathan and I enjoyed the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point, Michigan. We all enjoyed eating fudge from Donkers in Marquette, Michigan. Our favorite hotels were the Best Western Superior Inn & Suites in Grand Marais, Minnesota, and AmericInn Silver City in Ontonagon, Michigan, because they both had beaches.

My wife and I completed the tour which started on Friday, August 31 to September 3. We went clockwise and had beautiful weather. Our favorite spot was spending a day at the Willows B&B in Rossport, Ontario.

I completed a solo tour on August 7th after starting in Duluth and going clockwise around the lake. Besides Duluth, which I've visited many times, my favorite locations on the lake tour were Grand Portage, Minnesota, much of the scenery on the shore between Nipigon and Marathon, Old Woman Bay in Lake Superior Provincial Park and the architecture of Marquette and Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan. Great trip.

I completed the Circle Tour on July 13, 2007. I traveled by motorcycle, 2,040 miles from Mankato to Mankato, and enjoyed every moment of the trip, even the rain and sleet in Canada. I found friendly people everywhere, except Michigan. Restaurant service was poor, waitresses and waiters were surly and the food was tasteless. I'm glad I was only in Michigan for about a day and a half. When touring on a motorcycle I look forward to having a good meal at a sit-down restaurant, and relaxing a bit. Michigan did not give me a good impression. On the other hand, my favorite place was the Coast Guard station at Whitefish Point in Michigan. I really enjoyed the view and the history of that area of the lake. The Canadians were very friendly and went out of their way to help me in any way they could. I am planning on touring the Lake again next summer, but I will have my wife with me next time.

I circled Lake Superior on my motorcycle between August 18th and 25th. Highway 41 North into Copper Harbor was the best motorcycle road I'd been on until I came back south on 26. Just beautiful!
