October 2, 2007 Favorite - Schreiber : The people were really nice. Marquette: Nice hotel - Landmark Inn and the people at the hotel were very helpful. Ishpeming, Michigan, as well. Dale & Diane Benson, San Leandro, California 1963 Went in 1963 when it first opened. Was very little except Wawa and Michipicoten Harbour on the Canadian road. John Dolnick, Parma, Ohio August 29, 2007 We started our tour on August 17th from South Bend, Indiana. We spent our first night in Cadillac, Michigan, as we had many appointments that day and got a late start. We then drove to Sault Ste. Marie and spent three days, since my husband loves all of the ships. We then drove to Marathon, Ontario, least favorite place on the trip, hard to find a place to eat. We then headed for Thunder Bay and it was our most favorite new town. Wonderful room, great falls, great people, great food, beautiful views, we stayed two nights. Then headed for Duluth and stayed two nights on the canal, loved the lift bridge and the town. Then we drove to Houghton, Michigan, drove to Copper Harbor and then all the way back to Sault Ste. Marie and spent another night. We headed back and spent one more night at Muskegon, Michigan, and had a great steak dinner. We had a great time and arrived back home on Aug. 29th, great pictures. Joann & John McCahill, South Bend, Indiana September 3, 2007 My wife and I have a cabin near Cornucopia, Wisconsin, and have been enjoying Lake Superior for more than 25 years now. We had talked about taking the circle tour for some time, and we just completed it on September 3, 2007. We have spent time on Minnesota's north shore and in the U.P. so we more or less zipped through those areas and spent time in Canada. Most of the popular tourist attractions didn't interest us all that much. What we were most impressed with was the scenery both along the lake and away from the lake from Nipigon to Pancake Bay. I don't know how many times we said "WOW." We went clockwise on our trip, and when we got to Pancake Bay and the hills started to get smaller, we almost turned around so we could go back through the area we liked so much. The U.P. is great though. Lots of nice people up there. We had a wonderful stay in Munising. Duane & Judy Lien, Grantsburg, Wisconsin August 29, 2007 We completed the tour on August 29, 2007. Three ladies in their 60s out on the road together. The whole trip was fabulous, so it's hard to pick one favorite place or experience, but here are some of our favorites: We added to the Circle Tour - we named it Circle Waterfall Tour, because we saw so many waterfalls and truly enjoyed them. Favorites: Pictured Rocks Tour, Soo Locks Tour, Eagle Canyon Suspension Bridges (scary, but we did it). This is something I have wanted to do for years, and I am so happy I had my two very good friends along to enjoy this with me, it was a fabulous trip. LaVonne Sigdahl, Grand Forks, North Dakota Paulette Reule, Mandan, North Dakota Norine Knudson, Pingree, North Dakota August 24, 2007 Circle Tour completed by myself. I completed the Circle Tour on August 24. I started my trip on August 10, 2007, from Duluth. I spent three wonderful days in Copper Harbor touring the Keweenaw Peninsula the moved on to Christmas, Marquette, Paradise, Batchawana Bay, Michipicoten and Rossport before heading back to Minnesota. My favorite places were Copper Harbor, Miners Beach and Hurricane River in Pictured Rocks, Grand Sable Dunes, Tahquamenon Falls, Crisp Point Lighthouse (and all of the other lighthouses I visited), and Whitefish Point. It was VERY dry in the U.P. and I drove past an area that had been burned in the Sleeper Lake fire north of Newberry. The trip to Crisp Point Lighthouse was quite an adventure, but well worth the drive. It takes 1 hour to travel the 22 miles on the winding, narrow, gravel road to reach the lighthouse! Crossing into Canada was quite an adventure, it took 1 hour to get through customs, they checked everything I had with me!! Coming back to the states took 15 minutes. Hmmm, wondering about our homeland security .… The eastern half of the Trans Canada highway was absolutely beautiful. Wish they had more scenic overlooks or waysides since there aren't many places to pull over. I loved Lake Superior Provincial Park, and being able to see Agawa Pictographs was especially exciting and a great hike, too. I had beautiful weather until Michipicoten and then it was foggy and cloudy for the next two days, so everything I wanted to see from Rossport to Thunder Bay I was unable to see. I didn't spend any time on the Wisconsin side of the lake, since I've been there many times before and I didn't stop anywhere on the north shore of Minnesota because I go there numerous times every summer. So my last day I drove from Rossport to Two Harbors with limited stops and stayed in Two Harbors for three nights. I'd love to see the Pictured Rocks area again and go on the boat tour, since they were unable to go out due to high winds and waves 7-9 feet, and I'd love to see the eastern part of the Ontario portion of the lake, if it wasn't such a pain to go through customs! Maybe some day I'll check out what I missed between Rossport and Thunder Bay. All in all it was a wonderful trip. I put 2,600 miles on my car with all of my side trips, but it was well worth it. Lake Superior is my passion and I'm amazed even more than before at the immensity and beauty of this wonderful place. Carol Fadness, Apple Valley, Minnesota 2005 In 2005 my wife and I left mid-Michigan and went to the U.S. Soo to start our Circle Tour. We didn't plan on doing it for the tour, but just to see as many waterfalls as we could in a week. Masco Corporation August 26, 2007 My father and I drove all the way around Lake Superior. We flew from Raleigh, North Carolina, to Duluth, Minnesota, on August 17. We rented a car and the next day started our clockwise drive. My favorite places were Grand Marais, Minnesota (the bay and the Angry Trout restaurant), Wawa, Ontario (the nicest people), and Bayfield, Wisconsin (the islands). But there were many spots we stopped to explore the lakeshore and say, "Wow!" Heather Valli, Carrboro, North Carolina |
