Left Duluth August 5th … Returned August 9, 2003. We went around
the lake clockwise if that makes any difference. 1,185.5 miles from my
parents’ home in Duluth and back. Even though our vacation last year was
an Alaskan cruise where we experienced a little of Canada’s beauty, the
consensus of the 3 of us was that we were all amazed at the scenery while
driving in Canada. The views of the lake, the scenery and even the signs
(watch out for MOOSE!) kept a chuckle going with all of us. If you want
a specific item, the William A. Irvin in Duluth was incredible (and the
LAST event on our trip). Also, Palisade Head was a quick but unforgettable
scenic overlook. Lastly, we bought a Lake Superior Travel Guide before
we left and found plenty of useful information within.

My wife and I just completed the circle tour of Lake Superior and
we loved it! Our stops were: Grand Marais, Minnesota; Marathon,Ontario;
Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario; Paradise, Michigan; Marquette, Michigan; Copper
Harbor, Michigan. Our favorite spot was Paradise, Michigan, because of
the amazing sandy beach! Another favorite was the drive from Wawa (where
we should have stopped!) to Sault Ste. Marie … the cliffs and the views
were beautiful!

My wife and I went around the lake last week. Left Minneapolis Monday,
July 21 and came back to Minneapolis on Saturday, July 26. Our favorite
spot and experience was at the Shipwreck Museum at Whitefish Point.

My family and I are from South Africa and are currently located
in Manitoba. We started our trip July 18, 2003, and overnight in Duluth
- what a fabulous town. We spent time at the strip and enjoyed it tremendously.
Sault Ste. Marie was also a highlight, especially the Bushplane Museum.
Rossport is the cutest of towns.

Our favourite experiences: Lutsen Mountain in Minnesota; Sleeping
Giant Provincial Park - we saw a bear, a deer and a porcupine; Ouimet Canyon;
Thunder Bay Lookout; Pancake Bay … And the crazy driving between Thunder
Bay and Sault Ste. Marie! Wow! Breathtaking views, twisty turns, huge inclines
and scenery like nothing else in this world!

Advice: Take a lot of time, stop at all the scenic vistas and play
at every beach you can find! Favorite: Neys Provincial Park, Ontario. The
scenery and Pancake Bay were beautiful!

Four of us (3 motorcycles) did the Circle Tour from August 3-8!
We made a few extra sightseeing stops, visited many lighthouses and put
on a total of 1,689 miles. Great scenery, good weather (only 50 miles of
rain on the 2nd day). I’m ready to go again, only wish we didn’t have to
wear helmets in Canada and Michigan.

My husband, Greg, and I completed the Circle Tour Monday, August
11, 2003. We started on July 26 at Sault Ste. Marie. My favorite experience
was camping at McClain State Park and visiting Calumet in Michigan. Greg’s
favorite experience was the boat tour of the Apostle Islands in Wisconsin.
We both thought the scenery in Ontario was awesome.

My favorite spot was hard to pick but I would say Split Rock Lighthouse
or Pictured Rocks National Lakeshore. The sad part of our tour was seeing
the handiwork of people with spray paint defacing the rocks along the highway.
Favorite experience was on Highway 17 in Canada running along the train
tracks then have the train turn and run under the road. This is a trip
I will recommend to all my motorcycling friends.

The Pictured Rocks Boat Cruise was outstanding! Still, a longtime
favorite activity is walking on the (Lake) Superior Hiking Trail.

My husband and I drove the Lake Superior Circle Tour, leaving home
in Jackson, Michigan, on July 18, 2003, and driving north to Sault Ste.
Marie. We developed car trouble in the Soo, Michigan. The next morning
, Saturday, we went across the St. Marys River to Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario.
We traveled in our 1991 Miata 2-seater sports car, which had every nook
and cranny packed. with a cooler in the back and the top down all the way.
The weather and the roads in Ontario were great. We hiked and saw many
waterfalls and thoroughly enjoyed our trip. I especially enjoyed the inuksuks,
once we found out what they were from an info center near Marathon. All
in all this trip was one of the most enjoyable ones we have taken - we
met many interesting people!

My wife and I completed our circle tour of Lake Superior (West to
East) on August 6, 2003. We did it in our 1988 GMC Safari van and included
a 10-day fishing trip at Kabenug Lake during that period. Oh, how relaxing!
Our favorite place? Well, actually, we have several. At the top is the
Terry Fox Memorial outside of Thunder Bay. It is so awe-inspiring and the
view of Lake Superior and Thunder Bay only adds to the moments spent there.
Another is the village of Wawa, which was a surprise to us. So remote and
yet so friendly. We wish we could have viewed Agawa Rock, but both of us
are semi-handicapped. We saw a photograph, however, and felt it was very
well presented. Then again, there is Kabenug Lake and the route between
White River and Wawa. Making favorite choices like this is difficult!

My partner and I recently completed a tour around Lake Superior,
camping along the way with our dogs in our VW bus. Direction: counterclockwise.
Favorite places: Hmmm, this is tough to narrow down. New places that we
really liked were Lake Superior Provincial Park, particularly Agawa Bay
campground and the trails in that area. We also really enjoyed ourselves
on Minnesota’s North Shore, where we used Tettegouche State Park as a launching
pad for exploring that area. My favorite places in Michigan are the waterfalls
in Presque Isle in the Porcupine Mountains. That river is just beautiful!
My favorite experience (which we repeated over and over) was to take the
dogs (a chocolate lab and a golden retriever mix) swimming in the big lake.
