July 18-31, 2006 My husband and I traveled the Circle Tour from July 18 to July 31. We visited three provincial parks in Ontario: Sleeping Giant, Neys, and Lake Superior. All of them have wonderful nature trails. The overlooks over Lake Superior in Canada are just amazing. In Michigan we really liked the Point Iroquois Lighthouse. Martha Rosen, Minneapolis, Minnesota July 12-20, 2006 Started from counter-clockwise on a Honda Goldwing. We liked Thunder Bay. Missed Copper Harbor because of the heat. Optimum length for a full Circle Tour trip is at least a week to 10 days. Everyone was friendly, but Thunder Bay was the most so. What surprised us the most? 102-degree heat in Duluth. Ruth & Gary Francis, Grand Rapids, Michigan July 2006 My wife and I rode our Harley-Davidson Road King around Lake Superior in July. We left Minocqua, Wisconsin, on July 7th. Two days in Bayfield at the Bayfield Inn. One day in Two Harbors, one day in Grand Marais, one day in Thunder Bay, two days in Rossport at Serendipity Gardens B&B, one day in Wawa, two days in Sault Ste. Marie, across the U.P. and back to Minocqua. Grand Marais, Minnesota, was our favorite town. Serendipity Gardens was our favorite place/accommodation. Charles Darte, Winter Haven, Florida 2006 My husband and I live in New England and started dating in 1994, and in 1996 he took me to his family cabin in Lutsen, Minnesota, for the first time and we have been going almost every year since by way of the U.S. beginning in the U.P. of Michigan. We’ve gone as far up as Grand Portage. This year we decided to do the Canadian route to avoid the hustle and bustle as well as to experience a whole new vision of the Big Lake and come into the cabin from the north. Also, neither of us had been to Canada. This was the best trip yet! We camped along the way and just enjoyed the scenery so much and found the people in Canada to be so genuinely friendly, especially at the greatest roadside stop we have yet to find, The Canadian Carver/Campers Store/Indian Crafts/Full Service Gas Station in the Pancake Bay area. These people were so awesome and so were the services! All around favorite place, Grand Marais, Minnesota. Other favorites, Ouimet canyon, Pancake Bay, waterfalls along Minnesota 61. What amazed me most about Lake Superior was the color blue at certain bays along the Ontario side. It was like looking at tropical waters, the most striking shades of aqua - just gorgeous! Chris & Erin Foster, Parsonsfield, Maine July 20, 2006 Completed the trip on motorcycles. Favorite spots: Split Rock Lighthouse, Ouimet Canyon and suspension bridge. The whole trip was very nice. We will make this an annual trip!!! Gary A. Borlace, Midland, Michigan Kevin McLaughlin, Marquette, Michigan July 2006 We drove around Lake Superior (the 2nd time) over the long 4th of July weekend, 90% of the trip with the top down. This time we drove counter-clockwise. The whole trip around the lake is nice … especially all the lighthouses, and the Soo locks. Last April we drove around Lake Michigan, which was a nice trip also. Rod & Judy Ness, Hermantown, Minnesota August 11, 2006 We started on August 7, 2006. The weather was great! We went clockwise around. I think the best part was the Canadian side of the lake. Great Views. Less traffic than the Minnesota north shore. Although you see more of the lake on the Minnesota north shore. Going into Canada was much easier than coming back into the USA. I really liked the Shipwreck Museum in Marquette, Michigan. The whole trip was great and fun! We will do it again for sure. Scott & Kathy Blixt, Montgomery, Minnesota July 2006 I competed the circle tour by myself on my motorcycle, a BMW F650 GS. I left Ottawa, Ontario, on Monday, July 25 and started my circle at Sault Ste. Marie, crossing into the U.S. into Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, on Tuesday morning. I stayed in Marquette, Michigan, then traveled in Wednesday to Thunder Bay, with a stop in Duluth at Rider's Warehouse, a great source of motorcycle gear. One of the favorite parts of my ride was from Duluth up to the border. The road was winding and the scenery fantastic. I had a great meal at “My Sister's Place” in Grand Marais, a restaurant recommended to me by a woman in a gas station. She was right - it was the perfect place for a female traveling alone. From Thunder Bay, I went back to Sault Ste. Marie (another excellent stretch of scenery through Lake Superior Provincial Park), arriving there on Thursday night. Then I traveled back to Ottawa the next day. My whole trip of 3,460 kilometres took me 4-1/2 days. I highly recommend it as a wonderful experience. Everyone I met was friendly and helpful, and amazed that I was doing this trip on my own on a motorcycle. Patti Griffin, Ottawa, Ontario July 8, 2006 Duluth and Fort William and the Depot Museum.
