We started at St. Ignace June 6, 2005, and travelled
clockwise around the lake. We particularly enjoyed Lake of the Clouds
in Michigan's Porcupine Mountains and the scenery on the north shore.
It was hard not to stop the RV every 10 minutes for another picture. We
are sure glad that we took our time. Count on taking a week, at least,
to allow yourself time to stop and enjoy the scenery. We saw moose,
deer and bears on both sides of the border.

We did the tour on motorcycles. We loved the whole ride. The
Canadian side was so pretty. We did it about 5 days. Some days we rode
all day, some days we just sat and looked at the pretty scenery. Kelly
Johnson, Winona, Minnesota

Our favorite parts of the trip were hiking around the many
waterfalls between Marathon and Thunder Bay, the view driving along the
north shore of Lake Superior, and Ouimet Canyon. We followed the Lake
Superior Travel Guide’s directions to the ghost town of Jackfish. We
found the old town and many old foundations, but also found some newer
homes on the water which was a little disappointing. Nevertheless, we
had a great time on the trip. Greg was happy to see a wolf, and we also
saw bear and red fox. Lindsey Shartell, Houghton, Michigan

Our favorite spot was Lake Superior Provincial Park at
Agawa and the hike to the Agawa Indian pictographs. We also had great
accommodations and great food. Our favorite place to stay was Sunset
Motel on the Bay at Munising, Michigan, and our favorite restaurant was
Kinniwabi Pines Restaurant in Wawa, Ontario. Our grandson, Chris
Bowman, also accompanied us on the trip. David Smith, Apple Valley,
Minnesota

Our favorite spots included the beautiful beaches at Neys
Provincial Park, the pictographs at Lake Superior Provincial Park and
Picture Rocks Cruise out of Munising, Michigan. Our most favorite
experience was dinner at the Salzburger Hof near Batchawana Bay. What
an unbelievable find - an off-the-beaten-track genuine German Guest
House overlooking beautiful Lake Superior. The owner made us feel very
much at home and ensured that our meal was perfectly prepared. The food
was delicious and plentiful. The best German Food we’ve had in North
America! I would strongly recommend this trip to anyone. The scenery is
unmatched anywhere in the world, people were friendly and the camping
facilities - both public and private - were well-maintained and offered
many amenities. Lynne & Keith Hamre, Duluth, Minnesota

Traveling Upper Peninsula of Michigan north to Copper
Harbor. During this time of the season the trees were a beautiful fall
color and the trees connected above, making an awesome colored canopy
effect. Al & Stacia Stauffacher, Ham Lake, Minnesota

We departed my home in Newmarket, Ontario, Thursday
evening (July 7th), arrived in Tobermory that same evening and caught
the 7:00 a.m. ferry to Manitoulin Island on Friday the 8th. We departed
the ferry around 8:30 a.m. Friday and proceeded to Highway 17 and
clockwise around the lake from Sault Ste. Marie, Ontario. We took 4
days and rode more than 3,300 km. Our Number 1 favourite was the
stretch about 100km south of Wawa along with a similar distance west of
Marathon. The scenery was spectacular in both instances with the added
feature of great roads for the motorcycle rider. Our second favourite
was near the end of our trip when we travelled on Michigan Road 123 to
Paradise located on Whitefish Bay. The road was newly paved, had little
or no traffic and involved passing through three state parks. The road
didn’t provide a view of Lake Superior until we arrived in Paradise,
but the isolation and constant curving of the road was ideal for a
motorcycle rider. Dan O’Toole, Newmarket, Ontario

We left on motorcycles July 3rd and finished July 5th. We
enjoyed Ashland, Wisconsin, and their 4th of July celebration. We would
do the ride again in a heartbeat. It was magnificent. Doug & Lori

It took about two weeks starting at Sault Ontario and
going counterclockwise. The best area was Sleeping Giant Provincial
Park in Thunder Bay. We plan on doing th trip again since we now know
what to see. Lots of open spaces and wildlife. Gary & Barbara
Markman, St. John’s, Michigan

motorcycle trip. We did the Lake Superior Circle Tour for our “Bad

Since the Fourth of July, 2005, I have completed the final
leg of the trip all the way around your wonderful Lake, from
Duluth/Superior to Bayfield and Washburn (for their super book shops)
and on to Ironwood and out to Copper Harbor then to Marquette, Munising
and up to Grand Marais and around to Sault Ste. Marie. I had done the
rest of the Circle Tour in the 1970s and 80s. Richard C.

Toured in 1995, best places were Ouimet Canyon and Sleeping Giant.
Steve, Lisa and dog, Bear, toured. Also took train ride to Agawa Canyon
which was very nice. Between Wisconsin, Michigan and Minnesota, we go
to Lake Superior on average of 5-10 times a year. Favorite place -
Copper Harbor. We have circled both Lake Superior and Lake Michigan and
parts of Lake Huron. Future plans include all 5 lakes. Steve

We did the whirlwind tour in a week. Liked
what we saw, so we put it on the trip list for a longer visit some day.
We camped with a small trailer and drove from Phoenix, Arizona. One of
the nicest spots was the municipal campground in Ontonagon, Michigan.
We got in town later than I would have liked, but still had a great
spot on the beach with a view and was very nice. The locks of the Soo
were interesting even for the 13-year-old who was with us. She did
enjoy the fur trade history and the other places we stopped. We had a
traffic delay in Ontario near Terrace Bay for about five hours. We did
a U-turn and went back up the road from the delay, found a spot for our
17-foot trailer and had a bar-b-que with some other delayed travelers.
A lot of fun and good conversation. Nice to be able to speak “hockey”
with someone who know more than just the voice bites they hear. Old
Fort William and Grand Portage were big hits. Of course, Paige, our
granddaughter, had to get her own Diamond Willow walking stick. Started
and ended in Duluth. Jeff & Vicki Frazier, Phoenix, Arizona

Last summer we toured across
Canada and this summer we did the USA part. We enjoyed all of the tour,
especially along the shore in Canada where the scenery is breathtaking.
We had a great time in Kakabeka Falls where we had Saskatoons(berries)
for the first time. I spent many summers as a child in Paradise,
Michigan, and think the Tahquamenon Falls are great. This year we
especially enjoyed Bayfield, Wisconsin, where strawberries were in
season. They also have the best smoked whitefish we’ve ever had! One
could go on and on about this part of the country. We will return many
times. Ray & Carol Brill, Bradenton, Florida
