We LOVE that lake, she IS an inland sea!

Coming from very hot, very humid south, our favorite part of the ride was enjoying 70 degrees, non-humid blue-sky weather. The views were incredible.

We were amazed at Duluth and what they have done with the canal area. Bob is a train and boat fan, so he loved the shipping going on in the various ports and the fact that so much of the tour route had railroad track beside the road. Barbara loved the scenery: the heavy forests, rocky outcrops, many tiny islands and the lakes everywhere. We found the town dumps in White River and Wawa and saw bears in both places. We also saw two moose and a fox just north of White River. The scenery between Nipigon and Wawa is just amazing! We now want to take our tour in reverse so we can see what we missed from the other direction. And we want to take longer in order to take in some of the stops we didn’t have time for. Thanks for a very helpful tour book!

I loved the whole ride, we were on motorcycle, beautiful. Thunder Bay, Wawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Old Women’s Bay, Ashland, Bayfield, Two Harbors - loved all the spots we were at.

We left on July 13 and returned on the July 17, 2005
There were three couples on motorcycle. Went clockwise around starting in Duluth. Enjoyed the Split Rock Lighthouse area and White River area. It was great!

We started and ended our tour in Sault Ste. Marie, traveling clockwise around the lake. We loved all the lighthouses along the way, especially Copper Harbor and Split Rock. We were thrilled to see a bear right beside the road outside of Wawa. We got a great picture!

This time we fell in love with the Eastern half of the tour from Terrace Bay to Sault Ste. Marie which was the most beautiful. Lake Superior and Pancake Bay Provincial Parks were spectacular.

I loved Duluth, the Aerial Lift Bridge. Voyageur Outfitters, Lake Superior Provincial Park, gave us a canoe ride.

My favorite spots were all of Canada and most of Minnesota.

My favorite spots were along the northern coast, seeing cascading waterfalls coming down to the lake.

The trip was done on a 1971 BMW R60/5 motorcycle and the comment I got the most from people was, “Who are you traveling with? You’re alone? You’re nuts!” This was one of the most enjoyable rides I have ever done. The people I met and the great roads and wonderful scenery made even the occasional nasty weather easier to endure.

The first night we camped in the Porcupine Mountains in Michigan. What a beautiful park with great views & scenic outlooks. The Presque Isle River and Island was incredible. The second night we camped at Pictured Rocks National Forest. We didn’t get a chance to take a boat out to Pictured Rocks, but enjoyed the beachside & remote campground (except for the biting flies). The third night we enjoyed a night at the Ramada Ojibway Hotel and saw some huge ships go through the locks. The fourth night we camped at Neys Provincial Park - it was a bit cooler than we thought, but the scenery in Canada was breathtaking. The fifth night we stayed at the Prince Arthur Waterfront Hotel in Thunder Bay - and hit the casino and a pizza joint. The final two nights we stayed at Lutsen Resort in Lutsen, Minnesota, and golfed at Superior National, kayaked and drove the Gunflint Trail. I’d say our favorite spots were Neys Provincial Park, driving through Lake Superior Provincial Park (though we almost ran out of gas!), and the Lutsen area (which we frequent). If and when we do it again, the things we’d like to do that we missed are: Take a boat out to see the Pictured Rocks, camp and hike in Lake Superior Provincial Park, visit an amethyst mine in Thunder Bay, camp and hike in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park and do more canoeing and kayaking!

We have circled the lake at least four times. Our favorite spot on the circle is Agawa Bay. The campground there in Lake Superior Provincial Park is well situated, and there is now a very impressive visitor center, which tells of the nature of the area. There are many places of interest nearby and a number of fine hiking trails.

The sunrises and sunsets we saw were breathtaking and we would go again in the off OFF season in a heartbeat.

With 10 fellow bike riders. We are aggressive riders and do not hesitate to put miles on each day. However, the scenery and landscape of Lake Superior was so breathtaking that that we found ourselves stopping often for pictures and the view. Lodging was not a problem and fuel wasn’t either. The roads were great. I would have a hard time picking one specific area that we liked the most though for me, it was the whole northern shoreline from Lake Helen to Marathon.

Nipigon! The food at the Nipigon Café was really, really great. It’s a little off the main road, but worth the stop.
James Allen, Birmingham, Alabama

Have made the trip as often as I can!

Our favorite spot, which we visit often, is Duluth Minnesota, an exciting place for young and old, with a variety of tourist attractions, restaurants and accommodations. The highlight is watching the huge cargo freighters pass under the Duluth Aerial Lift Bridge. Our best experience was the really interesting cruise through the canal and locks on the Chief Shingwauk tour boat in Sault Ste. Marie. Our next trip we hope to take the Agawa Canyon tour train on their spectacular excursion through the Agawa Canyon area.
Ernest Reimann, St. Paul, Minnesota

We all agreed that Sault Ste. Marie, Michigan, was our favorite spot. My favorite experience was the vacation, quality time with my parents (Nimps). My husband’s favorite was an emergency landing of a helicopter at Ouimet Canyon Provincial Park.

1979/1995
In 1979 we drove from Connecticut to the Sault and on to Wawa, Thunder Bay, Split Rock, Gooseberry Falls, Two Harbors, Knife River and on to Duluth. In 1995 we drove through the Soo, Upper Peninsula, Wisconsin and on to Duluth. We missed a couple of spots, we hope to go back. Favorite Spot: Let me tell it this way. I spent 1935-1955 growing up in Duluth’s Lakeside. As kids we found a storm sewer grate in a vacant lot near our home. We pried up the top thinking it would make a great submarine. We started to explore. Several hours later we emerged on the shore of my favorite spot - Lake Superior.

My wife’s favorite spot was the Amethyst mines (she enjoys picking rocks). I enjoyed the Bushplane Heritage Centre as an ex-pilot. Also had at least a weasel run over my toes in Sleeping Giant Provincial Park.

Our favorite spot on the Circle Tour is the North Shore in Minnesota from Duluth to Grand Portage. We also enjoyed Ouimet Canyon, Wawa, Sault Ste. Marie, Tahquamenon Falls and Copper Harbor. We liked seeing all the wildlife. We saw moose, bears and especially a lot of porcupines. Most memorable experience: On the second day of our trip we were hiking out at Ouimet Canyon through the snow and 2 days later in Sault Ste. Marie we were hanging out in shorts and tank tops. It just goes to show you that you never know what to prepare for on a trip to Lake Superior!
